The ARDD5 contains a pair of screened signal diodes with separate cathodes. The UK pre-CV designation is Army Receiving Double Diode five. The Royal Air Force called this valve VR54 for Valve Receiving fifty four. After the Common Valve series was introduced in 1941 to unify government procurement this valve was renamed the CV1054.
The glass envelope has been screened with an external zinc metallisation.
The rear is plain zinc paint with a corrosion spot visible.
The wide glass tube envelope is 31 mm in diameter, and excluding the IO base pins, is 62 mm tall.
