The CV1896 is a double triode based on the commercial 6C8G. The intended application is as an audio voltage amplifier followed by a phase splitter in sets or 'gram amplifiers using push-pull output. The audio input would normally be taken to the top cap, being the grid of the 'first' triode. This will confer greater isolation from the anode circuit than for valve two.
Haltron were a wholesaler of valves for export from the UK.

The classic envelope is 38 mm in diameter and, excluding the IO base pins, is 93 mm tall.
